Training future public health practitioners in Kyoto

Kyoto University’s School of Public Health needed a way to teach biostatistics effectively to students with widely different backgrounds, including adult learners and beginners who had little or no prior statistics training. The school wanted a tool that was accessible enough for classroom use but still powerful enough to help future public health practitioners understand research design, confounding, and data analysis. JMP Pro was used in the Department of Biostatistics to support lectures and laboratory courses.

JMP implemented a flexible, easy-to-use analytics environment that students could run on their own PCs, allowing them to practice with real public health data and learn progressively through hands-on labs. As a result, students were able to grasp statistical concepts faster, “get” JMP quickly, and build confidence in regression and data analysis; Kyoto University reported that JMP’s usability is especially well suited to statistics education.
