Case Study: ASTM International achieves real-time tire test modeling and clearer standards development with JMP

A JMP Case Study

Preview of the ASTM International Case Study

The American Society of Testing and Materials uses JMP® to design roadwheel lab tests

ASTM International, through its Truck/Bus Tire Test Development task group, needed to understand how laboratory tire-testing conditions differed from real-road performance so it could help shape updated regulatory standards. The team used JMP for real-time data analysis and modeling of roadwheel lab tests, comparing temperatures, load, speed, inflation, and surface conditions.

Using JMP, ASTM International built regression models and interactive prediction templates to translate lab results into highway-equivalent conditions. The solution revealed a significant temperature difference between flat roads and curved lab roadwheels, helped communicate findings clearly to engineers and regulators, and supported the development of more realistic truck tire testing standards with immediate, understandable results.
