A JMP Case Study
The National Institute for Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy (NICE) needed a better way to make clean coal technologies, such as carbon capture and sequestration, more viable and scalable. Its researchers were using traditional one-factor-at-a-time experimentation, which made R&D slow, costly, and difficult to optimize for complex multifactor conditions. NICE turned to JMP to support its Design for Six Sigma and design of experiments efforts.
Using JMP’s DOE and visualization tools, NICE improved experiment design, accounted for variation, and found better-performing solutions with fewer tests. The results were significant: R&D cycle time was cut by as much as half, costs were reduced, and the organization generated at least one patent application per DFSS project on average. JMP also helped NICE create clearer graphics for managers and executives, strengthening support for its research programs.
