Case Study: Kodak achieves zero-defect film manufacturing with JMP

A JMP Case Study

Kodak gets a boost from JMP in its drive for zero-defect performance

Kodak’s Film Capture business faced a hard-to-detect contamination issue in motion picture film manufacturing: microscopic black particles were appearing intermittently, below the detection limits of inline inspection and with little feedback from customers. Using JMP, Kodak’s quality and manufacturing teams worked to uncover the source of the defect and support their zero-defect manufacturing goals.

JMP helped Kodak analyze millions of records and camera images, revealing non-uniformity at the film edge and enabling targeted process control analysis and improvements. With JMP, Kodak upgraded coating technology, edge controls, and material formulations, reducing defects from about one in every 10 million linear feet to one in every 300 million, with no occurrences in the last 12 months.
