A JMP Case Study
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was part of an ASTM task force working to improve commercial truck tire testing standards. The group needed to understand how laboratory roadwheel tests differed from real road conditions so it could help develop safer, more realistic regulatory tests. JMP statistical discovery software was used to analyze the test data and build models of tire temperature behavior under varying inflation, load, speed, and surface conditions.
Using JMP, the team created regression models, templates, and prediction profilers to compare lab and highway conditions in real time. JMP helped them identify a major temperature difference between flat and curved surfaces and find highway-equivalent lab settings. The result was clearer communication with engineers and regulators, faster analysis, and stronger evidence that helped support new truck tire regulatory tests.
