Drilling equipment maker FMC Technologies uses JMP to optimize processes
FMC Technologies, a global maker of subsea and other oil-and-gas equipment, needed a better way to analyze manufacturing performance data and prioritize improvement efforts across its many production sites. The company also wanted a flexible analytics tool for Six Sigma and other operational uses, and turned to JMP statistical discovery software to help tackle both numeric and text-based manufacturing reports.
JMP enabled FMC Technologies to combine text mining with statistical analysis by pairing a custom JMP script with R, making it easier to group similar problem descriptions, visualize trends, and speed up root-cause analysis without coding. The result was faster, more accurate decision-making and significant efficiency gains, including cutting a defect review task from about a week to 15 minutes; one JMP-driven analysis also helped recover equipment worth $400,000 and nearly save the company a half-million dollars.
