California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) needed to prepare undergraduate engineering students for successful industry careers in an increasingly global, innovation-driven marketplace. Professor Jianbiao John Pan used JMP statistical discovery software in courses such as Engineering Test Design and Analysis, Quality Engineering, Design of Experiments, and Reliability Engineering to bring hands-on, project-based learning into the classroom.

JMP enabled students to run interactive analyses, create visualizations, and design experiments both in class and for assignments, helping them tackle real-world problems more effectively. The results included smoother project execution, stronger understanding of engineering concepts, and collaboration across cultures in a 2016 program with 11 Cal Poly students and 22 students from Zhejiang University of Technology in Hangzhou. By using JMP, California Polytechnic State University helped students gain practical analytics skills and a competitive advantage for careers at leading companies worldwide.
