Brazca, working with independent consultant Steffen Brammer, needed a better way to evaluate complex geospatial data to identify mineral extraction opportunities in Africa. The challenge was especially difficult because a gold deposit in Ivory Coast had mixed, bimodal mineralization that required a new method to separate overlapping data accurately and meet a tight production deadline.

Using JMP and JMP Scripting Language (JSL), JMP helped Brammer build a new geostatistical cluster analysis method that could split mixed data while preserving spatial relationships. The result was a computationally inexpensive, script-based approach that produced probability maps and delivered time savings so significant that Brammer said JMP paid for itself in about a week, giving him an “unfair advantage.”
