Case Study: Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute achieves breakthrough sepsis prediction with JMP

A JMP Case Study

Advanced statistical tools enhance detection of life-threatening sepsis cases

Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, working on a sepsis study led by researcher Ray Langley, needed a way to make sense of very large, complex clinical and genomics data sets to better predict how severe sepsis would become. They used JMP Genomics from JMP to analyze metabolomic, proteomic, and RNA data without requiring heavy programming expertise.

Using JMP, the team quickly performed data quality checks, transformations, visualization, and predictive modeling, then validated results against external data sets. The effort helped develop a blood test that can distinguish mild from severe sepsis and identify patients needing urgent care, with potential to improve treatment decisions and future infectious-disease research.
