A JMP Case Study
US Synthetic, a manufacturer of diamond inserts for down-hole drilling tools, wanted to build a stronger culture of quality and improve problem solving across the organization. To do that, the team needed a more reliable way to analyze defects, identify key process factors, and design better experiments instead of relying on guesswork. JMP was the go-to statistical discovery tool used to support this work.
Using JMP, US Synthetic embedded design of experiments into its problem-solving curriculum and used tools like Graph Builder, stepwise regression, and JMP Pro modeling features to explore data and pinpoint critical factors. The results were faster, more reliable outcomes, including proving a defect was cosmetic, identifying three key process factors, and implementing a new machine in about six months. JMP also helped automate reporting, reducing a full-time task to part-time effort and freeing staff for additional testing.
