GB Railfreight (GBRf), one of the UK's largest rail freight operators, faced a significant challenge in training its locomotive crews. The traditional process required trainees to travel long distances to a central training school in Peterborough to learn cab layouts, a method that was costly, time-consuming, and difficult to scale with the arrival of a new fleet of Class 99 locomotives. To solve this, GBRf partnered with JigSpace to utilize spatial computing for immersive remote training.

Working with JigSpace, GBRf developed a fully interactive, true-to-scale 360° training environment for the Class 99 locomotive, deployed using Apple Vision Pro. This solution allows crew to explore the cab and exterior from anywhere in the UK, building familiarity without travel. The program is projected to save GBRf over £500,000 in two years by drastically reducing travel costs and provides crew with deeper, earlier access to training materials than was previously possible.
