How Carroll University built a campus culture of student success

Carroll University, Wisconsin’s oldest four-year university, faced a retention challenge: while recruiting was strong, the campus lacked a coordinated, data-driven way to identify and support students at risk of leaving. To make retention as strategic as recruiting, Carroll launched the institution-wide STAY program focused on first-time freshmen and partnered with Jenzabar, implementing Jenzabar Retention to surface early warning signs and guide interventions.

Using Jenzabar’s predictive-retention solution, Carroll built centralized workflows through its Office of Student Success that categorize students by risk, compile campus-wide data nightly, and trigger timely, targeted interventions while tracking face-to-face support. With Jenzabar’s platform enabling triage and resource matching, Carroll’s Freshman-to-Sophomore retention improved from 74.8% pre-STAY to 80.1% post-STAY, and overall retention rose from 78.8% to 82.0%.
