Efficient Project Budget Planning for the Gruner Group

The Gruner Group, a Basel-based engineering and construction firm with over 150 years’ experience and more than 30 subsidiaries, manages projects ranging from the Gotthard Base Tunnel to short-duration assignments. Because planning relied on hundreds of Excel spreadsheets, the process was slow, error-prone and ill-suited to the Group’s wide variety of projects; Gruner therefore sought a flexible CPM solution that would integrate with its existing Qlik BI and ABACUS ERP landscape.

Gruner chose Jedox, implemented with partner HighCoordination, after a five-day proof-of-concept and a two-month rollout; Jedox provided online writeback, access controls, customizable workflows, strong ETL and ready templates that tied seamlessly into Qlik and ABACUS. The result: automated, decentralized planning for ~400 users across ~6,000 concurrent projects, faster approvals and invoicing, a move from quarterly to monthly planning, and clearer, self-service reporting and governance through integrated visualizations.
