SaaS Solution Provider Leverages Open Source Business Intelligence to Reshape Service Management

Yarris, a Melbourne-based SaaS provider of service management solutions for government, utilities, insurers and others, manages large volumes of complex transactional data (about 700,000 service units a year representing ~$1.5B and a user community including 20,000 service providers). As a multi-tenant platform retaining 10 years of service-order history, Yarris needed robust, secure BI so clients could access, analyze and report on their data without the vendor handing over raw databases or relying on Yarris developers to create and maintain every report.

Yarris integrated the open-source JasperReports/JasperServer Professional into a separate Oracle data warehouse (refreshed from every 15 minutes to weekly depending on data) and added multi-tenancy controls, enabling clients to run, schedule and build ad-hoc reports themselves. The upgrade freed Yarris development resources, expanded client self-service (15–30 standard reports plus hundreds of custom reports), increased solution value and client satisfaction, and delivered executive-level access—“bank COOs personally using our reporting tools”—without extra vendor effort.
