Monolith Software Solutions, a Charleston-based provider of SaaS business intelligence for the quick-serve restaurant (QSR) industry, faced a growth challenge: its original LAMP-based Above-Store Monitoring service needed greater scalability, true multi-tenancy and modern BI features (dashboards, ad hoc query and analytics) to compete with national vendors and win larger, nationwide customers.

Monolith rebuilt its solution on an open-source stack—MySQL data warehouses, LifeRay portal and the Jaspersoft BI suite with JasperETL (Talend)—redesigning for per-customer databases and using Agile delivery. The new platform now polls data from 3,000+ restaurants, serves 4,500 users in 60+ organizations, and has delivered faster deployments, lower costs and a “wow” user experience that’s helped Monolith move from a regional player to winning national contracts.
