Periscope Holdings, creator of BuySpeed™, is an e‑procurement provider serving more than 900 public entities and the custodian of the NIGP product/service coding standard. As procurement customers increasingly required built‑in Business Intelligence for reporting, dashboards and ad hoc queries, BuySpeed’s early reliance on Crystal Reports and SSRS proved insufficient; Periscope needed a tightly integrated, user‑friendly BI solution that fit its J2EE architecture, supported security requirements, and kept costs low.

Periscope selected the open‑source Jaspersoft stack, built a BI layer with JasperReports Server and iReport (creating 30+ standard reports, domains/topics for ad hoc queries, and dashboard “punch‑outs” integrated with BuySpeed security), and implemented it without external consultants. The integrated BI offering improved end‑user access to procurement insights, earned strong customer feedback, and created new revenue opportunities through upgrades, migrations and professional services while increasing customers’ ROI on BuySpeed.
