North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust faced the challenge of meeting a national NHS mandate to implement GS1 barcoding standards for tracking medical supplies and equipment. With an urgent eight-week deadline to qualify for funding, the Trust partnered with vendor J2 Interactive to develop a custom, open-source barcode scanning solution.

J2 Interactive developed and delivered the agile, open-source CareScan+ application on time and on budget. The solution successfully integrated with existing systems to track clinical workflows. Its flexibility was proven when it was rapidly repurposed within a week to track the location and usage of non-invasive ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing the Trust with critical visibility into equipment availability.
