Case Study: Endesa tackles energy poverty with Izertis blockchain solution

A IZERTIS Case Study

Endesa tackles energy poverty affecting 11% of Spanish households with IZERTIS

Endesa, a major energy company, faced the challenge of managing a complex and inefficient process for handling energy supply cuts due to unpaid bills. This process involved multiple public agencies and was hindered by data protection laws that prevented the utility from knowing a debtor's vulnerability status, as well by isolated information systems that slowed down social services. To address this, Endesa selected vendor IZERTIS, working alongside Ayesa, to develop a blockchain-based solution.

The solution implemented by IZERTIS involved the development of a web portal, an API, and a specific blockchain component featuring smart contracts and configured nodes. This system created a single, secure source of information, allowing for the necessary sharing of data between different public organisms while complying with data protection regulations. This streamlined the entire process, enabling social services to identify and assist vulnerable households more effectively and agily, thereby helping to combat energy poverty.
