Case Study: University of Florida achieves centralized research data storage with iXsystems TrueNAS

University of Florida centralizes 75TB of research data with iXsystems

The University of Florida's Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering faced a challenge with its research data, which was fragmented across multiple direct-attached storage systems. This made it difficult to analyze large datasets. They needed a centralized, easy-to-manage storage solution that could be handled by graduate students without command-line expertise. They turned to vendor iXsystems for a solution based on TrueNAS.

iXsystems implemented a centralized storage solution using three TrueNAS systems with a combined capacity of approximately 155TB. The TrueNAS web interface provided simple management for adding new drives and creating SMB shares, which was ideal for the primarily Windows-based research group. The solution centralized the department's data, making analysis significantly simpler and more efficient. The University of Florida also benefited from iXsystems' consultative sales process and ongoing white-glove support.
