University College London boosts simultaneous data throughput 50x with iXsystems

The Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL) at University College London (UCL), a world-leading space research group, needed to replace its aging clustered SAN storage due to performance degradation and latency issues that impacted both users and large-scale backup requirements. They sought a high-performance, reliable, and scalable commercial storage solution and chose the TrueNAS unified storage appliance from iXsystems.

iXsystems implemented a TrueNAS High Availability storage array with over 200 TB of capacity, which is scalable to over 1PB. The solution delivered a 50x improvement in simultaneous data throughput and provides ample headroom for future growth. MSSL praised the stability, resilience, and performance of the OpenZFS-based TrueNAS system, noting it is beyond anything they had used previously.
