National Defense Agency needed stronger security for internal and external communications with defense partners, including a “Gateway Service” to inspect email traffic and better visibility into encrypted traffic and applications running on non-standard ports. To support its cyber-defense mission, it also needed a scalable packet-brokering approach that could feed multiple DLP and IPS/IDS tools.

Ixia implemented three Network Packet Brokers with the Application Threat Intelligence Processor (ATIP) featuring IxFlow, and later added two more units to extend coverage to Office 365 in the cloud. The Ixia solution delivered secure, efficient, reliable, and resilient communications, required no training time, and gave the agency actionable application-level insight for monitoring, threat detection, and email protection.
