Large Retail Pharmacy Utilizes Monitoring Tools to Secure and Optimize its Network and Wireless Devices

Large Retail Pharmacy, with more than 8,000 stores and two data centers supporting over 30,000 network and wireless devices, needed better visibility and protection for its critical retail, payment, and e-commerce systems. Its existing monitoring approach suffered from SPAN port limits, packet drops, and difficulty sharing filtered traffic across multiple tools, creating challenges for IT operations and compliance. Ixia and its Security Fabric, including NTO network packet brokers, were brought in to solve these issues.

Ixia implemented eight NTO 5236 packet brokers for the first data center and two NTO 5288 appliances for the second, giving the company aggregation, filtering, load balancing, and packet slicing capabilities. The result was a 75% reduction in MTTR, eliminated SPAN contention, improved PCI compliance, and lowered monitoring costs by optimizing existing tools and extending their life.
