Korea Telecom Hardens Network Defenses Against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attacks

Korea Telecom (KT), a major telecommunications provider in South Korea, faced the challenge of hardening its own and its customers' networks against increasingly sophisticated and damaging DDoS attacks. The company needed a solution to quickly test resiliency against the latest threats, such as Slowloris and Rudy, moving beyond simple bulk attacks that are easily blocked. To meet this challenge, KT turned to vendor Ixia and its BreakingPoint product.

The Ixia BreakingPoint solution enabled KT to accurately simulate massive, nation-state scale DDoS attacks using realistic mixes of application and malicious traffic. This allowed the company to validate the performance of security devices and ensure application resiliency under extreme conditions. The implementation delivered significant results, shortening testing cycles by six months and accelerating test setup from weeks to hours. With biweekly updates from Ixia, KT can now immediately test defenses against new threats as they emerge.
