Ixia Network Emulation: Remote Storage and Disaster Recovery Performance Validation

Large US Auto Insurance Company, one of the largest auto insurers in the US with more than 12 million customers, needed to validate a disaster recovery and business continuity storage setup spanning 1,400 to 2,000 miles between its Midwest headquarters and a remote data center in Colorado. To do that safely before deployment, it used Ixia’s Network Emulator II to simulate the delays and impairments a remote storage array would face in production.

Ixia connected a bi-directional network emulator between endpoint multiprotocol switching platforms and helped the company test its Hitachi Data Systems storage array in a lab environment. The solution allowed the team to confirm its backup plan could meet disaster recovery objectives at about 10 ms latency, validate performance before rollout, and avoid a risky “wait and see” deployment approach, improving efficiency and productivity.
