Using iWave to Uncover Funding For Youth Sport and Community Development

MLSE Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, works to support youth facing barriers through sports and community development. To expand beyond internal funding and reach new donors, the organization needed a better way to identify external support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources. It also faced the challenge of being associated with a major sports entity, which could create assumptions about its funding needs.

Using iWave, MLSE Foundation searched for prospective donors across North America by analyzing affinity, alumni data, and past giving to Toronto-based nonprofits. The team used iWave to build targeted prospect lists for events like the Toronto Maple Leafs golf tournament and the Game Changers Golf Classic, and to identify supporters whose interests aligned with health, wellness, and sports. The case study says iWave helped broaden the donor pool beyond downtown Toronto and into Ontario and national markets, but it does not provide a specific dollar amount or other measurable fundraising result.
