Case Study: ASEAG achieves reliable real-time bus communication and passenger information with IVU Traffic Technologies

A IVU Traffic Technologies Case Study

Preview of the ASEAG Case Study

Operational Control and Passenger Information with Real-Time Data

ASEAG, the Aachen bus operator, needed a more reliable way to track vehicles and communicate with drivers after its outdated analogue radio system caused disruptions and left dispatchers without dependable real-time bus positions. To improve operational control and passenger information, ASEAG worked with vendor IVU Traffic Technologies and its IVU.suite software, including IVU.fleet and IVU.realtime.

IVU Traffic Technologies replaced the old VDV radio with GPRS data radio on all 356 buses in just three months, while keeping analogue voice radio for backup communication. The system now sends vehicle positions every 20 seconds, feeds real-time data into 65 passenger information displays, and powers the ASEAG mobil app. As a result, ASEAG gained faster, more effective communication, precise fleet positioning, better connection management, and more up-to-date journey information for passengers, with the app earning four out of five stars in app stores.
