Case Study: DB Regio achieves integrated, efficient rail planning with IVU.rail from IVU Traffic Technologies

A IVU Traffic Technologies Case Study

Preview of the DB Regio Case Study

Integrated Planning and Dispatching for 2,800 Drivers and 1,300 Trains

DB Regio, the passenger rail subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, needed a reliable, integrated way to plan and dispatch vehicles and personnel across multiple suburban rail networks, including highly complex operations such as Munich. Its challenge was to manage tight timetables, special transport services, roadworks, and labor- and fare-related rules while improving efficiency, punctuality, and profitability. IVU Traffic Technologies provided IVU.rail to support this resource-spanning production planning.

IVU Traffic Technologies implemented IVU.rail with central data storage, optimization algorithms, and interfaces to DB Regio’s existing systems, enabling integrated timetable, duty, crew, and vehicle planning plus dispatch. The solution automated personnel dispatch, improved duty and vehicle scheduling, and ensured fair, stable allocations while factoring in operational and labor requirements. As a result, DB Regio significantly sped up planning processes, gained end-to-end transparency, and was able to react quickly to last-minute timetable changes and additional service demands.
