Trenitalia, one of Europe’s largest railway operators, needed a more efficient way to plan and dispatch its vehicles and personnel across regional, freight, and long-distance operations. Until 2009, the company relied on multiple partially redundant systems and local planning processes, creating inefficiencies and making it harder to manage complex rule sets and growing competitive pressures. IVU Traffic Technologies provided IVU.rail to support integrated planning and dispatching.

IVU Traffic Technologies implemented IVU.rail in two phases, first for duty planning and crew optimization, then for vehicle management, using a central database and standard interfaces for smooth integration. The solution automated duty optimization and personnel dispatch, improved transparency, and enabled mobile driver information via the Web Client. As a result, Trenitalia accelerated standard processes, increased productivity, reduced manual effort, and improved employee satisfaction while preparing to plan all resources in one integrated step.
