Kings View Behavioral Health System Uses Video Conferencing to Break Down Barriers to Mental Health Treatment

Kings View Behavioral Health System, a mental health provider serving Central California, needed a better way to deliver psychotherapy to patients in rural areas. Its Fresno-based psychiatrists were traveling to satellite clinics to see patients in person, which was costly, time-consuming, and limited access to care. Kings View turned to IVCi for help enhancing its telepsychiatry capabilities with video conferencing.

IVCi designed and implemented a TANDBERG-based video conferencing solution, including an MCU, gateway, gatekeeper, and set-top endpoints to connect satellite clinics with the main Fresno location. The system reduced travel time and expenses, increased the number of patients seen, and improved access to care in underserved areas; Kings View reported that patients had previously gone without needed care 80% to 90% of the time. The solution also made sessions more productive, as patients—especially children—opened up more easily over video.
