The Independent Electricity System Operator Shifts Left for Streamlined Operations

IESO, the Independent Electricity System Operator, needed a better way to separate IT responsibilities across teams and provide secure remote access for vendors, contractors, and third parties. Its existing client-based VPN and firewall setup made administrative tasks high risk and lacked the granular control needed for role-based access, so IESO turned to Ivanti for a more flexible remote access solution.

Ivanti implemented Ivanti Connect Secure and Ivanti Security Appliance to create a portal-based VPN with MFA, SSO, host checking, and dynamic role mapping. This helped IESO achieve better role-based operations, give vendors a web portal for access, and keep 1,000-user failovers transparent during disaster recovery exercises, while also improving remote work support and reducing performance bottlenecks through testing features like split tunneling.
