A Ivanti Case Study
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, a UK integrated care organisation with 4,000+ staff and more than 600 beds, needed to migrate decade‑old virtual desktops and nearly 300 clinical applications from Windows XP to Windows 7 across 40+ sites with zero tolerance for downtime or data loss. To avoid a risky Big Bang migration that could impact patient care, the Trust selected Ivanti and deployed Ivanti User Workspace Manager to manage user profiles and enable a phased VDI and Windows 7 rollout.
Ivanti became the linchpin of the Trust’s virtual desktop infrastructure, working alongside Citrix XenDesktop and Microsoft App‑V to virtualise difficult apps (digital dictation, mobile pharmacy), fix roaming printing, and cut logon times from several minutes to about 15 seconds. The Ivanti deployment reduced GPOs by 90%, eliminated the chronic patch failures that previously affected ~30% of updates, enabled near‑instant application streaming across thousands of desktops, and avoided the roughly 30% extra staffing and clinical risk a Big Bang migration would have required.
