A Itron Case Study
The City of Wadsworth Electric and Communications, a public power utility serving about 20,000 residents in Ohio, needed to build the infrastructure for a smart grid demand response program as part of its Connected Grid Project. To help manage energy use, curtail peak demand, and support customer participation, the city selected Itron and its IntelliSOURCE Enterprise demand response management system along with related HAN and IHD programs.
Itron delivered a turnkey solution that included hardware, software, installation, marketing, recruitment, call center support, and program management, integrating with Wadsworth’s existing systems and customer portal. The city enrolled and installed devices for more than 20% of its eligible customers between November 2012 and June 2013, and the program helped Wadsworth move from an original 3-year goal of 4,000 MWh in savings to a revised target of 5,300 MWh after two years.
