PHI to reach more than 380,000 customers for demand response

Pepco Holdings (PHI), a major energy delivery company serving customers across Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and New Jersey, needed to meet aggressive state energy-efficiency and peak-demand reduction goals while launching multiple demand response programs with limited internal staff. To support its Energy Wise Rewards initiative, PHI worked with vendor Itron, using solutions including IntelliSOURCE Enterprise Demand Response Management System, IntelliTEMP smart thermostats, and IntelliPEAK load control switches.

Itron implemented and largely managed PHI’s demand response program, handling marketing, enrollment, fulfillment, customer support, reporting, and system integration while PHI provided overall oversight. The partnership has delivered strong results, including more than 456,000 devices installed, over 400 MW of load reduction, capacity revenue from PJM, eight markets launched across PHI’s jurisdictions, and about 50 percent participation among eligible households in Pepco Maryland.
