Leveraging Itron AMI to Identify & Repair 23 Leaks, Saving 27 Million Gallons of Water Annually

The City of North Miami Beach, Florida needed a faster, more efficient way to read meters and find leaks across its 25-square-mile service territory. Working with Itron, the city looked to replace labor-intensive manual meter reading and quarterly leak surveys with a more automated approach using Itron’s AMI solution and leak detection technology.

Itron implemented an Advanced Metering Infrastructure system with 38,000 communication modules, 11,000 acoustic leak sensors, and cloud-based analytics. The result was the identification and repair of 23 leaks, saving an estimated 27 million gallons of water and $38,000 annually, while also improving billing accuracy, customer service, and meter-reader safety.
