Copenhagen Deploys Itron’s Smart Streetlight Network as Foundation for Multiple Smart City Applications

Citelum worked with vendor Itron in Copenhagen, Denmark, to support the city’s smart city transformation and carbon-neutral ambitions. The challenge was to improve energy efficiency, enhance roadway safety, and create a wireless foundation that could support multiple future smart city applications, especially around street lighting and cyclist safety.

Itron helped deploy a smart streetlight network with 19,000 networked LED lights, advanced controls, and dynamic lighting capabilities using motion and occupancy sensors. The solution enabled remote dimming and scheduling, instant failure alerts, and delivered 76% energy savings for upgraded streetlights, while also creating a shared network platform for additional city applications.
