Case Study: City of Murfreesboro Water & Sewer Department saves water and improves efficiency with Itron AMI and leak detection

A Itron Case Study

Preview of the City of Murfreesboro Water & Sewer Department Case Study

104 Million Gallons of Water Saved Annually

The City of Murfreesboro Water & Sewer Department in Tennessee needed to modernize its meter reading process and reduce non-revenue water across a service territory of about 100,000 customers. To address this challenge, the department turned to Itron and its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solution with acoustic leak detection and analytics software.

Itron implemented the AMI and leak detection system, helping MWSD identify and monitor leaks more efficiently while improving customer service and operational efficiency. The project located 64 leaks, repaired 28, and is estimated to save 104 million gallons of water per year, along with about $105,000 in annual production costs; one detected leak alone has already saved 21 million gallons and $41,000 in seven months.
