iText 7 Core – Integrating remote electronic signatures for Swisscom Trust Services

Swisscom Trust Services, a leading European trust service provider, needed to integrate qualified electronic signatures that were legally valid under both EU (eIDAS) and Swiss (ZertES) regulations into their remote signing service. Their goal was to enable their business partners to offer customers fully digital and legally binding document processes, such as signing contracts and invoices, without requiring software installation.

The solution was implemented using iText 7 Core, which provided the advanced PDF signing capabilities needed. iText served as the backbone of the PDF signing engine, generating a unique hash of the document for Swisscom's service to sign securely. This allowed Swisscom's partners to easily add authenticated digital signatures to PDFs without needing deep knowledge of PDF specifications. The results were highly successful, with both Swisscom and its partners satisfied with iText's scalable and flexible functionality, which was also integrated into other Swisscom digital identity services.
