Case Study: Ventyx achieves DB2 LUW to Oracle migration with Ispirer SQLways

A Ispirer Systems Case Study

DB2 LUW to Oracle on Linux

Ventyx, a software provider for asset-intensive industries, needed to migrate its Axis application databases from DB2 LUW on Windows to Oracle on Linux. The project was driven by DB2 locking issues, the need to move large objects reliably, and the requirement to support multilingual data through a character set conversion. Initial attempts with Oracle SQL Developer stalled due to complexity and missing LOB conversion support.

Ispirer Systems provided SQLWays to automate the DB2 LUW to Oracle migration, including BLOB handling and data conversion. Working closely with Ventyx, Ispirer Systems helped resolve migration hurdles and complete the cutover in August 2013, with 5 databases migrated, ranging from 20 GB to 80 GB and involving about 150 tables per database. The result was a cost-effective migration led by a single DBA, avoiding expensive proprietary tooling or extensive custom code.
