Avoiding cloud vendor lock-in with Kubernetes and Cilium – Form3

Form3, a managed payments provider, needed a reliable way to run its Fast Payment System gateway across two on-site datacenters and AWS while avoiding cloud vendor lock-in. The company had to connect Kubernetes clusters securely, manage IP ranges, enforce network policies, and maintain deep traffic visibility for debugging and compliance. To meet these requirements, Form3 chose Isovalent’s Cilium for Kubernetes networking.

Using Isovalent Cilium, Form3 connected multiple clusters, enabled transparent IPsec encryption, applied fine-grained network policies, and gained observability through Hubble and Grafana integration. The result was secure, low-latency, and easier-to-operate multi-cluster networking that simplified maintenance and troubleshooting, while also setting Form3 up for its new multi-cloud platform without tying the company to a single cloud vendor.
