Zimplats - Customer Case Study

Zimplats, Zimbabwe’s largest mining operation with about 6,000 employees, faced a serious safety challenge in 2008 (154 injuries and 11 lost time injuries that year). To move from reactive to proactive risk management and embed safety into production, Zimplats adopted IsoMetrix EHS as part of an integrated EHSQ system and pursued broader technology and cultural changes.

Using IsoMetrix for safety, health and environment management—combined with risk-reducing technologies such as ground‑stability sensors and a strong safety culture—Zimplats slashed injuries from 154 in 2008 to just 3 in 2018, reduced LTIs from 11 to 1, achieved nine million fatality‑free hours and an LTIFR of 0.19 per million hours worked; a recent fall‑of‑ground event resulted in zero injuries thanks to timely sensor alerts and the systems in place. IsoMetrix enabled Zimplats to automate EHS processes, embed safety into operations and sustain measurable safety improvements.
