A Iron.io Case Study
Edeva AB, a Swedish engineering firm, developed Actibump — a dynamic, radar‑equipped speed bump that raises and lowers to control vehicle speeds and improve safety and traffic flow. Their challenge was delivering timely, reliable data from distributed road modules: the original system recorded locally and relied on slow, unreliable batch FTP downloads to central servers, making real‑time adjustments and analysis impossible even after winning the Øresund Bridge deployment.
Edeva integrated IronMQ to stream telemetry: a local C process posts radar data to IronMQ every second, a PHP harvester consumes the queue and writes into MongoDB, and dashboards display near‑real‑time metrics. The change cut data latency from weeks to seconds, helped reduce speeding and stabilize traffic speeds on the Øresund Bridge, and set the stage for ongoing analytics with IronWorker and additional sensors with minimal refactoring.
