Why Designing a New Mining Machine Required New Design Technology

Coal Science Research Institute needed to develop a new mining machine, but its existing design process was slow and constrained by outdated tools. Using IronCAD software, the institute’s Tai-Yuan Branch set out to create the EBJ-120TP tunnel drilling machine and significantly improve design speed, reliability, and adaptability in China’s aging mining equipment market.

IronCAD helped the team move from concept to final design in three months instead of the usual six months or more, using 2D-to-3D design, concept visualization, and full part and assembly modeling for the machine’s 8,200 parts. The result was an award-winning product that earned certification, became widely adopted by more than ten enterprises, reached 17% market share in tunnel drilling machines and 80% in the half coal/rock segment, and delivered measurable savings and productivity gains for users.
