How IRONCAD Has Helped Transform Husqvarna’s Outdoor Power Equipment Manufacturing Processes

The Husqvarna Group, a major manufacturer of outdoor power equipment, needed a more affordable and easier-to-use 3D design solution than CATIA and 2D AutoCAD for product development and component management. In 2004, the company turned to IronCAD and the IronCAD Design Collaboration Suite to better reuse its existing 3D component library, improve collaboration, and support broader engineering and production needs.

IronCAD enabled the Husqvarna Group to import legacy CAD data, work across 2D and 3D, and quickly adapt designs using tools like catalogs, Smart eBehaviors, handles, and the TriBall. This improved productivity across multiple departments, including QA, foundry, and manufacturing, and helped Husqvarna design a new 10,000-square-meter chainsaw chain plant with greater speed and flexibility. The company reported lower CAD, support, and training costs, faster concept development, and easier design reuse, while also improving layout planning, clearance checks, and production flow analysis.
