A major insurance company needed to divest part of its business by locating and turning over 1.9 million specific insurance policies to two new owners within a strict 12-month deadline. Its challenge was a complex and time-consuming manual process, as the required files were commingled with other records in storage boxes across multiple locations, making discovery and transfer with internal resources impossible.
Iron Mountain implemented its Smart Sort solution to address this. The workflow used data from the company's core applications to automatically match, sort, and tag all records, determining which to relinquish or retain and assigning them to the correct new owner. As a result, Iron Mountain enabled the client to successfully transfer all divested files within the 12-month period, completing the project faster and at a lower cost than possible in-house, while also providing a system for better long-term records management.
