CyArk protects 2 petabytes in perpetuity with Iron Mountain

CyArk, a nonprofit organization dedicated to digitally preserving cultural heritage sites, faced the challenge of safeguarding a rapidly growing archive of 3D scan data, which was projected to reach 2 petabytes. Their existing method of storing backup drives in a local bank vault was neither secure nor cost-effective for long-term preservation. They partnered with Iron Mountain to implement a secure and scalable archiving solution.

Iron Mountain implemented a solution utilizing Crossroads Systems StrongBox and Spectra Logic tape libraries. This created a cost-efficient, long-term digital archive where data is written to two tapes: one stored locally and a second transported and secured offsite in an Iron Mountain underground vault. This partnership provided CyArk with a scalable, secure archive, ensuring the protection of mankind's cultural heritage data in perpetuity and allowing the small nonprofit to focus its resources on its mission.
