Case Study: a major gas and electric utility achieves unified asset visibility and faster storm response with IQGeo

A IQGeo Case Study

Preview of the Largest Gas and Electric Utilities Case Study

Reducing operational risks and costs with a trusted geospatial network view

IQGeo worked with one of the largest gas and electric utilities in North America, serving 7 million electric customers and 1 million gas customers across a territory of more than 100,000 square miles. After repeated mergers and acquisitions left the utility with multiple incompatible GIS, outage management, customer information, and other systems, the company needed to make spatial and related data accessible to all users, not just GIS specialists, while supporting both gas and electric operations and minimizing training needs.

IQGeo implemented its web-based IQGeo Platform to provide a single, unified view of data across multiple GIS and back-office systems, including Esri ArcGIS, GE Smallworld, Intergraph Technology, and Google Maps. The solution supported online/offline use, mobile and office devices, and direct or synced database access, and it was rapidly adopted: more than 5,000 users were active within five months, growing to 15,000 named users and over 8,000 daily users, with another 2,000 logging in for storm response. IQGeo also helped improve merger integration, accelerate tax assessment work, support work orders and leak surveys, and give crews and managers better situational awareness during storms and disasters.
