Case Study: Western Area Power Administration improves transmission inspections with IQGeo

A IQGeo Case Study

Preview of the Western Area Power Administration Case Study

An easy-to-use and efficient mobile field inspection solution

Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) needed a faster, more reliable way to inspect and track the condition of its 17,000+ miles of transmission lines. Its older inspection tool was slow, inconsistent, and sometimes lost data, creating extra work for field crews and making it harder to prioritize maintenance across regions. WAPA turned to IQGeo for a new cloud-based field inspection application to support ground and aerial patrols.

IQGeo implemented a solution that automatically surfaced structure information based on crew location, pre-populated inspection fields, and gave users access to ratings, deficiencies, and maintenance history in the field without needing WAPA’s VPN. The result was a more consistent and efficient inspection process, with fewer clicks, faster data entry, and less time spent downloading and uploading information. WAPA said the new tool would save crews significant time, improve availability through AWS cloud hosting, and help the organization more effectively monitor system health and maintain reliability.
