The City of Sacramento faced an aging parking system of over 4,000 meters (20–50 years old), limited payment options (coins or city debit cards only), confusing multi-space pay stations, frequent coin jams and no real-time fault alerts. Seeking a long-term partner to modernize parking, the City selected IPS Group, Inc. to provide a comprehensive parking modernization solution, including smart meters, pay-by-phone capability and a back-office Data Management System (DMS).
IPS Group, Inc. deployed smart IPS meters with Medeco electronic locks, a DMS, improved collections and pay-by-phone integration to provide real-time revenue/status data, tighter access control and flexible rate management. In the first eight months Sacramento recorded a 20% increase in parking revenue, meter uptime improved to 99.8%, 3,800 phone payments were made and credit-card usage rose to 53%, along with improved auditing and operational control.
