How Erie Life Improved Its Point-of-Sale Approval Rate by 50%

Erie Family Life Insurance set out to streamline its life insurance sales process and make it intuitive for independent agents accustomed to selling the parent company’s P&C products. The challenge was to simplify application forms, finalize rules for immediate underwriting decisions, and ensure a fully paperless enrollment process so agents could sell life products as easily as personal lines.

The company launched ERIE LifeSense, combining iPipeline’s iGO e-App, eSignature and STP with RGA’s EASI/AURA real‑time underwriting engine and Dell’s LifeSys policy administration and agent portal, integrating straight‑through processing to three policy systems. The result: a point‑of‑sale approval rate of about 50%, a 10‑point improvement in placement versus other products, and an average time to close new business of 15 minutes.
