Scandinavian Airlines Embraces a Digitalization Agenda

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) wanted to make its flight operations more efficient and cost-effective after going paperless with an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) program, but its initial 3G/4G roaming setup was expensive and unreliable. To solve this, SAS turned to iPass Inc. and its global Wi-Fi service to provide secure, consistent connectivity for crew members working across airports and hotels.

iPass Inc. implemented a Wi-Fi-first solution that bypassed common airport access limitations and gave SAS staff better, always-on access for mission-critical tasks. The results included lower 3G/4G costs, improved user experience, and wider adoption across the airline: more than 5,000 employees could use the service, and 90% of iPass-related traffic came from flight crews. SAS also expanded the offering to passengers, becoming the first airline to offer unlimited global Wi-Fi monthly subscriptions through iPass Inc.
